West Thames Dog Run is Battery Park City’s southern dog run, just south of West Thames Street at Little West Street. It has separate spaces for larger and smaller dogs, with seating and drinking fountains. Expect a paved city dog run, not a grass field or a swimming spot.

Find the dog park entrance
Head to Little West Street immediately south of West Thames Street and look for the fenced dog areas. The neighboring West Thames lawn is a different space; Battery Park City rules do not allow dogs on that lawn.
Get directions to West Thames Dog Run. Waterfront construction affects some nearby walking routes, so check the official access updates and follow temporary signs. Do not assume the esplanade offers a continuous route through the neighborhood.
Separate areas, seating and drinking water
Battery Park City Authority’s dog-run page describes separate large- and small-dog spaces, benches and shade structures. Its dog guide also lists drinking fountains for dogs and people. Bring backup water in case a fountain is unavailable.
Visitors describe a concrete surface, which some prefer to gravel. One noted that the run can feel hot on summer days. Check the ground and your dog’s comfort before settling in for a long visit. The drinking fountains do not establish a dog-swimming facility here.
Rules before you enter
Keep your dog on a leash no longer than six feet outside the dog run. Battery Park City restricts dogs from lawns, planting beds and certain public-art areas. Stay with your dog, keep gates closed and pick up waste.
New York City requires a dog license; dogs using dog runs must have proof of a current license and rabies vaccination. Follow the current gate notices when choosing a section.
