Wicker Dog Friendly Area, commonly called Wicker Bark, is the fenced off-leash enclosure in the southwest corner of Wicker (Charles, Joel) Park. The park reopened after a major renovation on November 15, 2025 with almost 6,000 square feet of play space, artificial turf, agility boulders, sealed asphalt, seating, shade and a new drinking fountain.

Find the dog park entrance
The main park address is on Damen Avenue, but the dog enclosure is in the southwest corner near Wicker Park Avenue and Evergreen Avenue. Walk through the surrounding park toward that corner and look for the renovated fence, signed gate, shade structure and turf play area.
Open directions to Wicker Dog Friendly Area. Keep your dog leashed throughout the rest of Wicker Park and until both of you are safely inside the designated enclosure.
What the 2025 renovation added
The Wicker Park Advisory Council says the renovation expanded the dog park by about 25 percent. The rebuilt space added an artificial-turf run, agility boulders, improved flow, sealed and colored asphalt, more seating, a drinking fountain for dogs and people, and a large shade structure.
The existing listing photo shows dogs using the older pre-renovation enclosure, including its hard surface, raised seating edges, mature trees and water area. It remains a useful historical exact-park image, but visitors should expect the completed layout described above rather than the older scene.
What park goers say
Park goers have long valued Wicker Bark as a social neighborhood gathering place with an active dog crowd, seasonal water and a convenient central location. Visitors often mention friendly owners, dogs enjoying the water and enough activity for a quick urban play session.
Older comments criticized the cramped layout, damaged fencing, drainage and hard cracked pavement. Those comments describe conditions before the November 2025 rebuild; the renovation specifically addressed space, fencing, drainage-related surfaces, shade, seating and water access. Crowd size and play style still change throughout the day, so pause at the gate and choose a quieter time when your dog needs more space.
Rules before you enter
Chicago Park District Dog Friendly Areas require a current permit and tag for each dog. Keep dogs leashed outside the enclosure, close both gates, remain with your dog, interrupt unsafe play and remove waste immediately.
