Herman Franks Dog Park is a protected, fenced off-leash area inside Herman Franks Park in Salt Lake City’s Liberty Wells neighborhood. The dog park combines a broad gravel-and-dirt run with double-gated access, agility obstacles, mature trees, benches, waste stations and a drinking fountain.

Look for the chain-link enclosure and air-lock double gate. Keep your dog on a leash no longer than six feet everywhere outside the designated off-leash enclosure.

Surface, shade and agility features
Most of the dog run uses compacted gravel and dirt, with mature trees and seating around portions of the enclosure. The firm surface drains and wears differently from grass: it may become dusty in dry weather, muddy in low spots after rain and abrasive during prolonged hard running. Check your dog’s paws and bring a towel when conditions are wet.
The low agility obstacles add variety for confident dogs. Let your dog inspect each obstacle at a comfortable pace and avoid crowded equipment. The fountain is intended for drinking; this is not a dog-swimming park. Bring backup water, especially during winter shutdowns or maintenance.
Rules before you enter
Salt Lake City permits off-leash activity only inside designated areas such as this enclosure. Dogs must use a leash no longer than six feet in the rest of Herman Franks Park. Close both entry gates, supervise your dog continuously, and move away from the gate before unclipping.
Pick up waste immediately and place tied bags in a trash receptacle. Leave if your dog becomes aggressive or overwhelms another dog, and follow all current signs at the entrance. Review the city’s park rules and etiquette before visiting.
