Woodlawn Lake Dog Park is a fenced off-leash area near the fishing pond on the Alexander Avenue side of Woodlawn Lake Park. The enclosure gives dogs room to run under mature trees, while the larger park offers a paved lakeside loop for leashed walks.
Plan your visit
- Dog park entrance: 115 Alexander Avenue, San Antonio, TX 78201.
- Park hours: 5 a.m.–midnight daily.
- Off-leash boundary: Inside the designated fenced dog area only. Dogs must remain leashed on the lake trail and elsewhere in Woodlawn Lake Park.
- Dog areas: Large and small dogs use a shared enclosure; there is no confirmed separate small-dog section.
- Parking: Parking is available around the Alexander Avenue side of the park. Large events can make nearby spaces harder to find.
- Water: Visitors report a dog-height drinking fountain, but bring backup water and a bowl during warm weather.
Find the dog park entrance
Use the 115 Alexander Avenue destination and look for the fenced dog area near the smaller fishing pond, west of Woodlawn Lake. The entrance is on the same side of the park as the gym, pool and Texas Avenue trailhead. Keep your dog leashed from the parking area to the double-gated entrance.

Shared play space and lakeside walks
The dog park is a compact, shared play area rather than separate large- and small-dog runs. Pause at the gate to check the current dog mix before entering, especially if your dog is small or prefers quieter play.
The adjacent lake and fishing pond are outside the dog enclosure and are not dog-swimming areas. For more exercise, leash your dog and use the park’s approximately 1.5-mile paved walking trail.
What park goers say
Park goers frequently mention the mature trees, shade, double-gated entrance, drinking fountain, waste bags and convenient connection to the lake trail. Visitors like having a fenced run and a longer leashed walk in the same outing.
Some visitors describe the enclosure as compact and report muddy or worn ground after wet weather. Shade and water availability can vary by location and maintenance, so bring backup water, waste bags and sun protection.
Rules before you enter
San Antonio asks handlers to supervise play, carry a leash and bring no more than two dogs per person. Dogs must be at least four months old and fully vaccinated. Dogs in heat and dogs displaying aggression must stay out of the park or leave immediately.
Owners must clean up waste and are legally responsible for injuries caused by their dogs. Food, treats and toys should stay outside the enclosure to reduce conflict.
