Find the dog park entrance
The official map places the off-leash area along NE 57th Avenue, west of the main athletic fields and south of the playground. Look for the fenced enclosures and posted dog-area signs across from the playground. Keep your dog leashed on park paths and until you are through the appropriate gate.
Get directions to Normandale Dog Park. Portland lists on-site parking, but visitors also use nearby legal street parking; check signs and do not block neighborhood access.

Choose an enclosure and check the surface
The connected pens give visitors options when the main group is too energetic or a dog needs more space. Use the section marked for small dogs when appropriate and follow any temporary gate signs. The map confirms the overall off-leash boundary, while the signs on each enclosure provide the current use.
Bark chips help reduce mud, but visitors still report puddles and worn dirt after wet weather. Shade from mature trees is useful in summer. Water may be available in the main area, but bring your own because outdoor fixtures and shared bowls can be unavailable.
Rules before you enter
Bring no more than three dogs. Handlers must remain inside, keep dogs in view and under verbal control, and accept responsibility for damage or injury. Dogs must display current license and rabies-vaccination tags. Puppies need a complete vaccination cycle, and dogs in heat cannot enter.
Leash dogs while entering and leaving and immediately remove any dog showing aggressive behavior. Remove pinch or choke collars during off-leash play, supervise children closely, keep early-morning and evening play quiet, and pick up waste. Portland also asks visitors not to bring food into dog areas or allow digging. Review the current Portland dog rules and posted notices.
What other park goers say
Visitors often appreciate the multiple fenced sections, dedicated small-dog space, mature shade, bark-chip surface and room to change enclosures when another group is not a good fit. Many also mention friendly regulars and convenient access to the wider park.
Other park goers report muddy puddles, limited trash capacity, occasional fence or gate concerns and dogs playing too roughly. Inspect the enclosure before unclipping the leash, keep a close watch and move to another section or leave if play becomes unsafe. Read current visitor reviews before your trip.
