Homer’s Run is the fenced dog run in Inwood Hill Park at Seaman Avenue and Isham Street in northern Manhattan. The volunteer group Inwoof supports the run, which has separate play areas, gravel and wood-chip surfaces, benches and seasonal dog-water access.
Plan your visit
- Official location: Seaman Avenue and Isham Street, New York, NY 10034.

- Play areas: Separate fenced sections serve larger and smaller dogs. Follow the labels on the gates.
- Surface: Gravel in the main area and wood chips in the smaller-dog section. Expect dust in dry weather and damp patches after rain.

Find the dog park entrance
Enter Inwood Hill Park near Seaman Avenue and Isham Street, then follow the paths behind the handball courts toward the fenced run. The official NYC Parks trail map marks the dog run near Emerson Playground on the park’s southeast side. Keep your dog leashed on the park paths until both of you are inside the gated run.
Get directions to Homer’s Run, then use the park map and entrance signs for the final approach.

Two fenced play areas
The larger section offers an open gravel area for running and social play. The smaller-dog section uses a softer wood-chip surface. Double gates help manage arrivals, but pause before entering and check the group already inside, especially if your dog is cautious or easily overwhelmed.
Water, seating and surface conditions
The existing park photo shows a dog in the gravel run with perimeter fencing, rows of benches, a hose and a low dog-water basin. Inwoof and park visitors also describe waste bins and modest agility equipment. Water can be shut off seasonally, and gravel can become dusty or uneven, so carry water and check your dog’s paws.
Rules before entering
Dogs must be licensed, vaccinated and supervised. Pick up waste, keep the gates closed and remove a dog that becomes aggressive. Inwoof asks visitors to avoid spike or pinch collars and not bring dogs in heat. Keep dogs leashed outside the run and away from playgrounds, athletic fields and other areas where NYC Parks prohibits pets.
What park visitors say
Park goers appreciate the neighborhood setting, separate dog-size areas, benches and room to move. Reviews also mention gravel dust, occasional odors, winter water shutoffs and the need to watch interactions at busy times. These are individual experiences, so check the surface, water and crowd when you arrive.
