Hills, shade and wet-weather conditions
The larger enclosure combines open grass, a substantial hill, a path around wooded edges and mature shade. The smaller enclosure is flatter and also has shade. Walk the surface before fast play because low areas can hold water and become muddy after rain.
Both sections have dog and people water fountains, but visitors report seasonal shutoffs and occasional outages. Bring backup water and a bowl, especially during freezing weather or hot days.
Rules before you enter
Each adult handler may bring no more than four dogs. Dogs must be healthy, parasite-free, licensed and vaccinated. Puppies under four months, dogs in heat and aggressive dogs may not use the park. Children eight and younger are not allowed; children ages nine through 15 must be accompanied by an adult.
Keep dogs under voice control and never leave them unattended. Carry a leash, leash dogs outside the fence, remove aggressive dogs immediately and pick up waste. Remove prong, choke and spike collars before play. Human food is not allowed; handlers who bring dog treats accept the associated risk. Review the current Kansas City dog-park rules and posted notices.
What other park goers say
Park goers frequently praise the large amount of room, separate small-dog enclosure, hills, shaded edges and walking path. Many describe friendly regulars and appreciate having a free fenced option with water and nearby parking.
Other visitors mention persistent mud or standing water in low areas, seasonal fountain shutoffs, overflowing waste bins and uncollected waste. Some also caution that energetic play groups require close supervision. Inspect the surface and group before entering, bring water and towels, and leave if play becomes unsafe.
