Battle Creek Dog Park is Ramsey County’s large, fully fenced off-leash area in the eastern section of Battle Creek Regional Park. The wooded property combines natural-surface trails, open fields, wetlands and ponds, with a separate area for dogs under 30 pounds.

Find the dog park entrance
Use the Upper Afton Road side of Battle Creek Regional Park for the most direct approach to the dog area. Follow the dog-park signs from the lot and keep your dog leashed until you are through the entrance gates. The property is much larger than a neighborhood dog run, so note your entrance and keep the official map available while walking the trail network.

Trails, ponds and changing conditions
The park’s scale and varied terrain are its defining features. Ramsey County’s off-leash plan maps multiple entrances, miles of trails, large open spaces and several wetland ponds. The same plan notes seasonal wet ground and erosion around ponds, so fenced or signed restoration areas must remain undisturbed.
Visitors often let dogs enter the ponds, but natural water is not monitored like a swimming pool. Ramsey County currently warns people and pets to avoid contact with foam in Battle Creek because testing found elevated PFAS levels. Obey any water advisory or closure, prevent dogs from drinking pond water and leave if you see suspicious foam or algae.

Rules before you enter
Ramsey County requires dogs to be leashed before entering and when leaving, licensed and vaccinated, and in sight and under verbal control at all times. Owners must clean up waste and are responsible for their dogs’ actions.
Puppies under four months and female dogs in heat are prohibited. Aggressive dogs must be leashed and removed immediately. Children under 12 must be accompanied and supervised by an adult. Read all posted rules and use the enclosure assigned for your dog’s size.
