Find the East 1st Dog Park entrance
The fenced run is on the south side of East First Street between M Street and O Street. Look for the dog-park gate across from the playing fields and basketball courts near Christopher Lee Playground. The nearby street address serves several public spaces, so use the fence and posted dog-park signs to identify the correct entrance.
Keep your dog leashed until you are inside the enclosure. The lawns and recreation areas across East First Street follow their own rules and should not be treated as part of the off-leash dog park.

What the park is like
This is one long, open play area rather than separate spaces for small and large dogs. The peastone surface drains differently from grass and can become dusty during dry weather. Mature trees and benches line parts of the enclosure, although much of the active play area is exposed to the sun.
A pet fountain is provided, but outdoor water fixtures can be shut off or out of service. Bring a bowl and backup water, especially during hot weather. The agility equipment includes a hoop-style feature and other simple obstacles that can add variety to fetch and training sessions.
What dog owners say
Dog owners often describe East 1st as a roomy neighborhood run with enough space for dogs to chase, socialize and use the agility features. Visitors appreciate the benches, waste station and water fountain, and many report that nearby street parking is usually manageable outside the busiest periods.
Common cautions are the limited shade over the main play surface, dust in dry conditions and the lack of a separate small-dog area. Some visitors also mention busy after-work periods and occasional winter or maintenance closures. Conditions can change, so the gate notice is the best guide on the day of your visit.
Rules before you enter
Current park information lists a maximum of three dogs per handler, a minimum puppy age of four months and a spay/neuter requirement. Keep each dog under supervision, remove a dog that behaves aggressively and pick up waste immediately. Children should remain with an adult.
Boston requires dogs to be licensed and under control. Outside a designated off-leash area, use a leash no longer than eight feet. Posted rules at the Massport gate govern the enclosure, so read them before releasing your dog.
Before you go
Review Massport’s public parks information and Boston’s dog and park rules before leaving. For a damaged gate, water problem, waste issue or another maintenance concern, use the contact information posted at the park or submit a report through Boston 311.
