Heritage Park Dog Off-Leash Area is a 27-acre fenced dog park in northwest Heritage Park in Olathe. It includes a 2.9-acre small-dog section, paved accessible loops, open grass, shade trees, drinking fountains and a pond in the larger-dog area.

- Hours: March 1 through October 31, 5 a.m. to 11 p.m.; November 1 through February 28, 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.
- Tuesday maintenance: Closed 5 to 9 a.m. in the summer season and 7:30 to 9 a.m. in the winter season.
- Dog areas: A 24.1-acre larger-dog area and a 2.9-acre small-dog area for dogs up to 14 inches tall and under 25 pounds.
- Trails and surface: Paved accessible loop trails through maintained grass and varied terrain.
- Water and restrooms: ADA-compliant drinking fountains and restrooms; the larger-dog area also contains a small pond.
- Parking: Five paved accessible spaces sit near two of the three gated entrances. The parking lot and restroom are near South Black Bob Road and West 161st Street.
Find the dog park entrance
Use the South Black Bob Road entrance at West 161st Street for the most direct approach to the dog area. The off-leash parking lot is just inside the park, beside the northwest dog-area boundary. Look for the gated entrances and the secure air-lock spaces where dogs can be leashed and unleashed away from the parking lot.

Two dog areas, paved loops and a pond
The small-dog section has its own fenced area without pond access. The larger enclosure has east and west portions, paved loops and a small pond. The partition allows part of the larger area to remain open during some maintenance or construction, but posted closures always take priority.
The pond is part of the off-leash area, but its condition can change with weather and algae. Check the water before allowing a dog to enter, prevent drinking from the pond and bring clean drinking water even though fountains are provided.
What park goers say
Park goers often praise the amount of room, the long walking loop and the choice between open grass and pond play. Owners of small dogs appreciate having a separate enclosure, while regular visitors describe the large area as useful for dogs that need space to run.
Some visitors warn that the pond can look murky and that wet weather creates muddy stretches. Others mention rough ground or burrs away from the paved loop. Rules before you enter
JCPRD requires dogs to remain under their handler’s control and in view. Carry one leash per dog, bring no more than three dogs per handler, remove a dog at the first sign of serious unprovoked aggression and pick up waste.
Dogs younger than 12 weeks and female dogs in heat are not allowed. Current vaccinations must be shown by visible tags, children under 16 need adult supervision and food is not allowed inside the off-leash areas. Read the complete JCPRD code of conduct and the gate signs before entering.
