Grant Bark Park is a fenced off-leash dog area in Grant Park at 951 South Columbus Drive in downtown Chicago. The entrance is tucked west of Columbus Drive, north of the 11th Street pedestrian bridge and beside the Metra tracks. The run has a hard surface, running water in season and places for people to sit.

Find the dog park entrance
The street address covers a large part of Grant Park, and the dog run is easy to miss from Columbus Drive. Go to the west side of Columbus Drive near 11th Street, find the 11th Street pedestrian bridge, and look just north of the bridge behind the Park District facility. The enclosure overlooks the Metra tracks.

Surface, water and seating
The existing park photo shows the fenced run, paved surface, mature trees and built-in seating. The surface helps avoid deep mud after rain, but check it with your hand on hot days before letting your dog run hard.
Water is a valued warm-weather amenity here, although older local updates show that spring activation has varied. Shared kiddie pools may also appear during warm weather. Empty or refresh standing water before use and bring a bowl and backup supply.
What park goers say
Park goers often describe Grant Bark Park as a friendly downtown spot where dogs have room to run and people can keep them in view. Visitors appreciate the supply of tennis balls, seating, running water and the regular group of local dogs.
Other visitors mention the short walk from parking, summer mosquitoes and the paved surface. The park can feel quieter than some central Chicago dog runs, but crowd levels and water service vary by time and season. These are visitor experiences rather than a check of today’s conditions.
Rules before you enter
Chicago Park District rules require owners to remain with and watch their dogs, keep gates closed, clean up waste and leash dogs before entering and after leaving. Food for people or dogs is prohibited inside Dog Friendly Areas.
Each person may bring no more than three dogs. Puppies under four months, female dogs in heat and dogs with known dangerous behavior are prohibited. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Every dog needs the required Dog Friendly Area permit and current registration tag; the Park District does not offer visitor day passes.
