Find the dog park entrance
Use the Lake Park Avenue address and look for the fenced Dog Friendly Area near the 3900 block. Keep your dog leashed on the sidewalk and outside the designated enclosure. Pause at the gate to check the current dog mix, close the gate behind you, and remove the leash only after both of you are safely inside.

Fencing, seating and water
Chicago Park District capital records show the dog park development was completed in 2019, followed by additional fencing and plantings in 2021. The existing park photo shows a fenced play area with benches and a dog-waste station.
Visitor sources describe separate areas for smaller and larger dogs and a drinking fountain, but the current arrangement and fountain operation are not documented on the official facility page. Follow the signs on each enclosure and bring a bowl and backup water.
What park goers say
Park goers often describe #591 as a convenient neighborhood dog area with secure fencing, seating, shade, waste supplies and a friendly local atmosphere. Visitors appreciate having an official off-leash option close to Lake Park Avenue rather than traveling across the city.
Other reports mention limited street parking at busy times and occasional uncertainty about the water fountain. The compact 0.31-acre footprint can also feel crowded when several energetic dogs arrive together. These are visitor reports rather than a check of today’s conditions, so bring water and watch the current play before entering.
Rules before you enter
Chicago Park District rules require owners to remain with and watch their dogs, keep gates closed, clean up waste and leash dogs before entering and after leaving. Food for people or dogs is prohibited inside Dog Friendly Areas.
Each person may bring no more than three dogs. Puppies under four months, female dogs in heat and dogs with known dangerous behavior are prohibited. Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. Carry the required permit for every dog and keep the current registration tag on the dog’s collar or harness.
