Tom Brown Dog Park is a fenced off-leash area inside Tallahassee’s nearly 300-acre Tom Brown Park. The dog area sits southeast of Lake Leon and has separate spaces for small and large dogs, mature trees, seating and drinking-water stations. Use the official park map and internal road signs because the dog park is well inside the larger athletic and trail complex.
Plan your visit
- Address: 501 Easterwood Drive, Tallahassee, FL 32311.
- Hours: Sunrise to sunset.
- Dog areas: Separate fenced areas are provided for small and large dogs.
- Water: Visitors report dog drinking fountains, but bring backup water and a bowl in case a fountain is unavailable.
- Surface and shade: The enclosure combines dirt, gravel and grass with shade from mature trees. Expect mud or worn ground after rain and during busy periods.
- Outside the enclosure: Keep dogs leashed elsewhere in the park, pick up waste and keep dogs away from ballfields and playgrounds.
Find the dog park entrance
Enter Tom Brown Park from Easterwood Drive and follow the internal road toward Lake Leon and the playground. The City map places the dog park southeast of the lake, beside the main perimeter road and near the nature-trail area. Get directions to Tom Brown Dog Park, then use posted signs for the final approach.

Fenced play areas and amenities
The large-dog side offers the most running room, while the small-dog enclosure gives smaller dogs a separate place to play. Visitors describe double-gated entries, benches, waste-bag stations and abundant shade.
Lake Leon, the trails, sports fields and playground are amenities of the wider park, not part of the off-leash enclosure. Do not treat the lake or nearby streams as dog-swimming features. Keep your dog leashed when moving between the dog park, parking areas and trails.
What park goers say
Park goers often praise the amount of space on the large-dog side, the mature-tree shade, drinking-water access and the chance to meet other dogs and owners. Recent visitors also describe convenient parking and plenty of room for energetic dogs to run.
Several visitors say the small-dog area feels more limited, and reports mention worn dirt, mud after wet weather and occasional water-fountain problems. Others caution that supervision varies when the park is busy. Stay close to your dog, check the ground and water station when you arrive, and leave if the play style in the enclosure is not a good match. Read current experiences on Tripadvisor or DogPack.
Rules before entering
- Keep your dog leashed until you are inside the appropriate fenced enclosure.
- Close both gates behind you and remain with your dog during play.
- Pick up all waste and use the available receptacles.
- Move to another area or leave if play becomes unsafe or your dog is uncomfortable.
- Outside the dog park, follow Tallahassee’s leash rule and keep dogs off active athletic fields and playgrounds.
Before you go
Check the official Tom Brown Park page for current hours and notices. Large events can affect parking or temporarily close the dog area, so review City updates before making a special trip. Bring water, waste bags and a towel if rain has made the surface muddy.
